The gay area in Athens can be found in Gazi, named after the fact that this area was home to the old gas works. Gazi is considered to be the upcoming, cool place where young people spend their evenings to eat, drink and party.

Athens has a well developed public transport system and you can get just about anywhere without a car. Express buses also operate from the airport and drop you in several central locations. There are plenty of direct transfer as well that will take you directly to your hotel or accommodation. The ride will take you about 45 minutes to an hour. You can buy multi-day tickets which include your airport transfer which may be a good option since Athens is a bit spread out and not necessarily a compact, walking city.
The capital of Greece, Athens, features a vivid and diverse gay scene that has nothing to be jealous of other popular gay cities like Barcelona and London. Athens' gay nightlife might not be "crazy" but it's definitely fabulous. Irene's square as well. The gay bars and clubs usually open in the midnight, and they stay open until very early in the morning.
